Legal Question
So I want to say that I need advise because I purchased a hunting license without the Hunter’s Safety Education Card (wasn’t even asked at the gun shop where I purchased it) and went out to the shooting range in York County and Game Warden confiscated my hunting license and issued a summons (which I didn’t receive but that’s a whole different topic).
I plead guilty (I should of come to this forum and read up on this issue on obtaining a hunter’s safety education card before buying a hunting license or just bought a shooting range permit!!?) and will be paying the fine in full. I have to pay about $250 for the “unlawfully obtaining a hunting license without having the hunters ed card!?”
Now the question...Should I be worried about my LTCF being affected at renewal because of this summons offense?

Re: Legal Question
Some counties yes, some no. Its up to the sheriff. You need to talk to a gun type lawyer.

Re: Legal Question
You need Gunlawyer001 here on the forum. He seems to be the go to guy, who gets things done.

Re: Legal Question
The offense is a summary and shouldn't affect your LTCF(unless you end up on probation). It isn't a prohibitor acquiring or keeping a LTCF.
However, the conviction could be held against you by a vindictive sheriff under the Character Clause.

Re: Legal Question
Were you aware that you needed the edu card before acquiring the license?
Ignorance shouldn't be a character issue in regards to an LTCF application.

Re: Legal Question
Have you now taken the course?
I am kind of surprised that the PGC does not link the records of course certificates with the license database so they would know when you are buying your license.

Re: Legal Question
Although it's a "gun-related" violation, it's not a statutory prohibitor, so the other posters are correct, the only way it would be a problem would be if the sheriff found out about it and decided to use it as a "character" issue. In Philadelphia, they likely would do so if they were aware.
On the positive side, if you behave yourself for 5 years, you can get summary records expunged, making it even harder for the sheriff to discover the DJ's record of the conviction.

Re: Legal Question
Ive never been asked for proof of hunter safety course. even after not buying one in over 20 years

Re: Legal Question
Unless things have changed you used to be able to get a Pa hunting license without the safety course if you showed them your license from the year before (even out of state).
Just wondering how the Game warden found out. Are you now required to carry your safety card with you?

Re: Legal Question
I'm wondering if he banged the warden's wife or something.
