How long did you wait after your expungement did you wait to run the check?
I don't recall exactly. I think the folks at the clerk of courts told me to wait about 6 weeks for the records to be destroyed. However, I don't think that I waited that long and when I checked the records were no longer there.
Nice. This was a state offense and i just received my pa state background check and it is cleared from it :)
All crimes pardoned by the governor are state crimes. However, the background check that is run during a firearms purchase is run through PICS (which looks at NICS). Those checks look at Federal Records (FBI database). State crimes are included in the FBI records. The FBI records are what is going to be checked during a firearm purchase, so that’s why I recommend checking the FBI records first.
Thats what I’m going to do today
Cool! I think that once you have the Pardon in-hand, there is no real negative consequence for trying to purchase a firearm (I dont think you would be prosecuted even if you were denied a purchase since you have already been pardoned and its just a matter of cleaning up records at this point). Its really just a matter of an awkward moment in the gun shop when they tell you that you are denied.
