Supreme Court scrutinizes state, local gun control
WASHINGTON (AP) - Gun control advocates think, if not pray, they can win by losing when the Supreme Court decides whether the constitutional right to possess guns serves as a check on state and local regulation of firearms.
The justices will be deciding whether the Second Amendment - like much of the rest of the Bill of Rights - applies to states as well as the federal government. It's widely believed they will say it does.
But even if the court strikes down handgun bans in Chicago and its suburb of Oak Park, Ill., that are at issue in the argument to be heard Tuesday, it could signal that less severe rules or limits on guns are permissible.
The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence is urging the court not to do anything that would prevent state and local governments "from enacting the reasonable laws they desire and need to protect their families and communities from gun violence."

No such thing.
Remember folks, when discussing gun control with your neighbors, coworkers and friends, there is no use in arguing the merits of laws that can not accomplish their intended goal. Gun control has never reduced crime. In fact it has always done the opposite by giving the criminal an unfair advantage.

I think the question would be: "Name a gun law that has stopped a criminal?"
I can think of none................but I'm just a 2A slanted person.

Roughly 30,000 people in the United States died each year from guns; more than half of them are suicides. An additional 70,000 are wounded.
I would love to know where they pulled these numbers from for this "article"

Here's one source from the Center For Disease Control and Prevention, a table citing: 10 Leading Causes of Injury Death by Age Group
Highlighting Violence-Related Injury Deaths, United States – 2006
Please be sure to open the attachment to read it.
You'll find it here: http://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/LeadingCauses.html
just click the link Causes of Injury Death: Highlighting Violence and select to see the table as a pdf or jpg.
For 2006, you'll note that the total for homocide and suicide totals more than 28,000 close enough to 30,000 afaic.
But, if you want to engage in a worthwhile project learn how to use CDC's WISQARSTM (Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System) an interactive database system that provides customized reports of injury-related data located at: http://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/index.html
It allows you to customize and filter reports as needed and can be useful in refuting the anti's statistics from one of thier own favored sources.

Losers don't even allow you to keep weapons at home without a "permit."
How are they a us territory again?
P.S. so after this ruling, how long will it be before Shitcago and the Virgin Islands have to allow carry of firearms??? I was thinking about buying land there but the gun laws are keeping me away.
