well, I feel like I'm talking to myself here, but I found out that it IS a 1959 model. I guess the "expert" at Browning missed this one. he was a nice guy, but I hate getting fed bad information. oh well. I'm just glad to finally get it figured out.

The "historian" is wrong. The rifle is a first year production Safari Grade.
Jeff
that was my conclusion.
I have seen many people date uglier things then a browning.
Following the posts about brownings, looking to find out about mine. It’s a 243 cal. made in Finland with a pencil barrel. It’s serial number is 509z3 but that where I stop. Would love if someone can help me out also.
Is your rifle's name "Charlene"?
Joe, Your rifle is a Browning Safari Grade made in 1963. The letter "z" denotes a Safari Grade. it is based on the Sako L579 action.
Not sure what else you would like to know.
