Looking for a 5.56 and .223 bolt action rifle. Any suggestions?
I shoot an AR that is multi-caliber abled. Would love to pick up a decent quality bolt action rifle that would handle both the 5.56 and .223 cartridge. I have looked at a Ruger American with a 16' barrel. Can you suggest other good choices?
Thanks!

Anything made by Savage...

I really like my FN TSR, but they don't make it anymore, and it's .223 chambering. But I already had a Winchester Model 70, so lots of similarities to that rifle, and it was pretty darn accurate too.

Tikka t3x stainless in .223, not 5.56. Excellent shooter, eats the same loads I cooked up for my ARs. Just a tweak more accurate.

I have a Savage axis in 223 with a factory threaded barrel that shoots nice.

I'll second that. I have one, also got the rail (these have a proprietary rail mount that gives decent chamber clearance) and mount a red dot or scope depending on what I'm doing.

This ^^^^^ I had a heavy barrel Savage that would shoot clay pigeons at 350 yards all day long with cheap ammo. Thompson Center Ventures are another accurate rifle with their 5R rifling and easy to clean.
