Only if you are using a firearm that can legally be used for hunting.
So my 30-06 rem 700 would probably qualify then?
I guess I could always claim that I was just a really bad deer hunter..

Don't know about state game lands, but around here, a lot of us go out to an old strip mine and fire away. While some people don't clean up after themselves, since there are no garbage cans out there, we always make sure that WE police up our brass and any other trash we might have generated, and haul it home for disposal.
No, you are not allowed to 'plink' on state gamelands. It's on page 22 of that book they gave you with your hunting license. Target shooting on SGL is prohibited, except at ranges.
