Unless you have a burr in the barrel when the gas port was drilled or your shooting non gas checked bullets at warp factor 3 you shouldn't have any issues . I have owned and shot 300 BO and 223 AR rifles and have shot cast bullets from both without problems .
Re: 300aac Cast or Plated
Thanks Tim, trying to make up my mind. I can get 220gn. plated from Everglades with free shipping or save 50 and get cast.
Re: 300aac Cast or Plated
You running said projectiles through a can?
Re: 300aac Cast or Plated
Im using the Superlative bleed off block. Mainly going subsonic but want the option of going super.

interested in your thoughts on the matter.
was thinking about loading some subsonic lead 220s subsonics for use with a can. always heard supersonic lead and cans wasn't the greatest combo.

It will lead up your can.
Run jackets, plated, or coated. Easiest way to see it, look at the amount gunk inside 22lr cans after a few hundred rounds. And they are a lower pressure round than 300Blk.
And anyone who says they run a hard cast and not lead up a can either doesnt shoot it or its so hard an alloy it may as well be jacketed lol
Now velocities will play a roll in that outcome as well. 300Blk subs are low pressure and low speed rounds. But you will still get fine vapor of lead that will build up on you can's interior. Supers will be even more.
Personally wouldnt run a gas check on a cast round through a can.
One solution, get a can that can be taken apart to clean, and cleaned with hazardous chemical that will dissolve the lead. And then dispossing of said haz-mat remains.
Or made of materials that can withstand being sand blasted.
Now you're limiting your can selection by not having a welded system (personally a fan of welded cans on rifle calibers).
In short, it can be done.
Just make the right selection for the intened job and loading wants.

My first reaction is why run supers through a can. Kind of defeats the purpose?

Back to my original question. I'm not a fan of cast but started a listing for a group by on the forum. Had a response from another user who coated cast projectiles. I'm looking at the bulk 220s from everglades. Any thoughts. He's indicating a savings of 50 per thousand. I'm pretty anal about cleaning and maintaining and would hate to have to clean out the gas system due to lead fouling.
