this doesn't sound like an orange on orange shooting. this was an ALF attack, these guys are militantly animal rights violent crazies. There was one article in F&S years ago about an Ohio loony shooting the crossbow hunters, cant seem to find it as it was in the years before the internet.
The only thing I remember about Ohio hunters being shot was the Thomas Dillon incident. He killed a couple hunters and fisherman before he was caught but I don't remember him being any type of animal activist, just a nut.

We need more background info on the guy. Could of been a failed hit?
There was a shooting in DuBois area a couple years ago during Turkey Season.
A local cop walked into the woods with his son to do some turkey hunting. They approached a seated person dressed as a turkey hunter, the seated person raised his shotgun and shot the local cop. Then the shooter left the area.
The local PD and the PSP began an investigation but the PGC imposed their legal right to investigate all shooting events which occurred in a hunting situation.
The local rumor was/is that the cop who was shot had been known to tap local married women while their husbands were at work and this was a pay back. Even as late as this year there has been no one arrested for the shooting. Although it was turkey season it was an "Oh Dear" or Oh deer" event.
I was going to post this incident previously but had not got around to it.
It's an interesting defensive scenario. Another hunter aims a gun at you, so what do you do? Then he fires, you probably shoot back or are dead. Without a reliable witness if you are the survivor and the aggressor is dead, they could easily twist it into you being the aggressor.
In this case I think the guy is lucky he is alive.
I read about this last week. Happened about an hour away.
Some people laugh at me that I carry when I'm hunting because I already "have a gun". May not have helped in this or similar situations, but if an up close encounter occurs I want a handgun that is accessible. A lot of scumbags probably wouldn't expect a hunter to be armed beyond their rifle.
Shit in the leg, approached and punched in the face? It would be great to have more details.
from what im reading there is the possibility it could be anti hunter violence but not likely, it seems more like the attacker knew the hunter knew where to find him and definitely had a reason to jump him, mind you im just infering
Never heard anything further about this.
