Colt AR-15 Roll marks. What is the deal?
I see ton's of posts of "I want a 6920 with xxx roll mark", many looking for the LE only ones.
I understand some of the "sporter" or "SP" ones are semi rare?
I see when someone posts they got a rifle one of the very first questions are "what roll marks does it have".
I's this simply a collectors thing?
Does it really matter if you just want a quality dependable rifle?
Do people think they are cool because they have something marked LE only?
Inquiring minds want to know. What is the deal with roll marks?
Re: Colt AR-15 Roll marks. What is the deal?
Yep, it's a collector thing, as is every gun colt makes.
Re: Colt AR-15 Roll marks. What is the deal?
I've been wondering about this myself as I'm hoping to get a Colt AR by the end of summer. A co-worker just bought one of the Talo ones, it's model number is LE6920(some letters indicating the Talo stuff) but its marking is "M4 Carbine".
From my understanding they are all the same rifle. Is that correct? I don't care about special markings just performance.
Sorry if this is a thread jack but it's kinda inline with what you are asking.
Re: Colt AR-15 Roll marks. What is the deal?
Collectibility. The dark days are over, so the "restricted" markings are cool to have as a reminder of what Colt did.
Re: Colt AR-15 Roll marks. What is the deal?
I'm not a fan of markings on anything and don't really care what the mark says providing its not some crazy design. That said, I prefer the M4 rollmark versus the "Restricted" mark.
Kinda how I hate S&W's warning "Caution: capable of firing with mag removed" engraved on their slides.

Yeah that grinds my gears on the M&P 40 I have. It was not enough to spell it out in the manual? One to many idiots did not learn how to properly use a firearm and now the politicians and lawyers give us this.
As to the AR roll marks. I really could not care, asside from it confused the hell out of me when looking for the AR. First it was the LE6920 and that had the LE only marks, then it was the Sporter SP6920, then back to the LE6920 without the LE only marks.
I was kind of glad I got one without the restricted marks. If I ever had to use it for defense I don't want to give an overzealous DA a reason to portray me as a soldier/LEO wannabe that is just looking to shoot someone.
I just wanted a reliable rifle that went bang every time I pulled the trigger and would last a lifetime or more.

I didn't know that or ever noticed it
I'll have to check and see if my Sigma 9ve has it
