Well, since I'm not a guy....
I'm not a hunter, not against it. Prior military and I do miss the range. Hey, so shoot me (LOL). I like a bargain and if I can do it for free then great! Used to be able to do it at our family farm, but when a housing development popped up next door, that came to a screeching halt.
I've never been to French Creek, just making conversation on a thread I'm new to. I obviously would pay my fair share if I went there to fire some rounds down range. My son and his friends have been there and speaks highly of it. Probably heading to an indoor range soon to get some practice time...looking forward to it. Daughter wants to go to a range for her 16th Birthday, any suggestions?
Re: Shooting at French Creel range?
I like French Creek a good bit, but wow are most of their rules entirely without merit. Don't go on Sundays or you'll wait an hour for a bench. Bring a staple gun or duct tape for targets. There are no barriers between benches, so you might get hit by brass occasionally. The $30 range permit is you + 1. I saw a badge there precisely once this year and he just sat in his truck, though no one did anything except use their own target stands - which no one cares about. People sometimes put clays on the hill to shoot, I can't imagine someone would have a problem with that but I know you aren't allowed to throw clays.
Technically you're not supposed to, but plenty of people bring their own target stands. PVC pipe stands, folding metal stands, stands made from those wireframe campaign signs, little green plastic walmart stands, all sorts.
Re: Shooting at French Creel range?
It's the wrong time of the year to go recreational shooting at a Game Commission Gun Range. Now, it will be packed with deer hunters.
Re: Shooting at French Creel range?
Thanks for the info. I can't wait to start shooting again. Any indoor ranges you can recommend?
Re: Shooting at French Creel range?
Does anyone know why shotgun trapshooting was stopped at French Creek?

The usual reason is lead contamination of the soil. But I suspect it was because the shotgun area was starting to look like a junkyard or landfill the last few times I was there.
