No paperwork required between spouses, parent/child, and grandparent/grandchild.
But it is basically your word versus what they police believe as to how the child came into possession. A receipt of some sort may help.

Thanks, what about the loaded in car and carry question?
Any transporting in a vehicle of a "firearm" requires a LTCF, except between certain destinations. Some of which require the gun to be unload and securely wrapped.
There is also an exemption for when a "firearm" is in a vehicle for spouses and children. But do not rely on this as a method to transport. It is for when the parent/spouse has a LTCF and has left a "firearm" in the vehicle.
18.61.6106(b)(13) Any person who is otherwise eligible to possess a firearm under this chapter and who is operating a motor vehicle which is registered in the person's name or the name of a spouse or parent and which contains a firearm for which a valid license has been issued pursuant to section 6109 to the spouse or parent owning the firearm.
I get it, thanks!
