They are in very short supply as demand has grossly exceeded Ruger's ability to produce them. Production has been ramped up, but that won't affect availability for several months.
I don't personally own one. That said, absolutely everything I've read has been praise for the gun. From what I can tell, it's an $800+ gun being sold for $650. Look at the Springfield or Remington you can get for that price and compare it to the Ruger (we'll not go into the Taurus and derail the thread). If I saw one at a shop I'd buy it on the spot.
I have seen reviews on youtube and they all seem pretty positive. Im looking to get my first 1911 and it is a pretty nice looking firearm. A gun store around here is selling it for $629. Plus i am selling them my Ruger LCP with CT laser and 3 holsters for $300. So I can get the SR1911 for $329...but i am also looking at their Kimber's and Springfield's as well.
I have the SR1911 and absolutely love it. I paid just a little over 6 for mine right after they came out last year. I have over 1000 rounds through it with not a problem. Its my every day carry gun. If you can find one in stock IMO buy it.
As stated above, reviews that i have heard have all been good. I have yet to see one on the shelf. When i do, it will go on my card immediately. I have been wanting a 1911 for some time now, and at that price with good reviews and good looks, it might as well be that one.
It's funny right after i read these posts i emailed the gun shop and asked if they had any in stock. He replied yes and no. They had one in stock just as a display piece. They have over 50 people waiting on backorder for them. And this is a pretty small shop. Looks like I wont be getting a Ruger this weekend.
apparently its easier to find a baby unicorn than a sr1911.
but, heard they run like champs for whatever that is worth.
Yeah i may have to "settle" for a Kimber or Springfield.
