tracers just glow so you can see where they are going. Incendiary rounds burn hot and are used to cause things to ignite.
Re: Post Your Cool Tracer Pictures
Hmm, but couldnt you ignite things from tracers? Also, are both legal in PA? :D
Re: Post Your Cool Tracer Pictures
i got them from cabelas had to wait like 3 weeks backorder but it was worth it. still have 50 left it was $40/100rds shipped like $16/50 well worth the money i dont think i had a dud at all. just make sure to do it on a rainy day you dont want to set anything on fire ;-)
Re: Post Your Cool Tracer Pictures
A couple years ago I was shooting my SKS with a friend. I had bought a box of tracers just for fun. The guy I bought them from gave me a second box of what looked like tracers.
They were factory milsurp rounds in a 10 round box. The headstamp markings were the same, the bullet and primer sealers was the same. The tip marking was the same.
I fired the regular box of tracers and most worked just fine. A couple only lit up at the far end of the range.
That second box though was odd. I wish I would have saved one of them. When I fired them, the muzzle report was off. It wasn't so much a bang as a whoomph. The gun cycled properly and everything but the muzzle report was wrong.
I fired a couple more, they all made the same sound. I fired the last 3 from the hip after I noticed none of them lit up.
I fired and the muzzleflash was insane. It looked like a basketball size fireball at the muzzle that tapered off about 8 feet in front of the gun and this was during the day.
I never did find out what the hell kind of tracer they were supposed to be but they didn't hurt the gun at all.

Not so. I have shot LP tanks with API, and they did not explode.
They did perform well on other things, though.:D

(i was the photographer and I'll try to get the video posted too)
That was a fun day Dave. Don't forget to remind everyone that we waited for a rainy day and remained responsible with the tracers.
There was another gentleman at the range that didn't leave until we were done shooting them. C'mon... who doesn't like tracers? :D
Tracers are like little road flares going down range and they will start a fire easily and quickly.
Be responsible so we can keep our sport alive.
