Honestly, I know nothing about it. If you say it's a good deal, I'll take your word on it! I'm about to get a good deal on a Colt 1911 myself.
Re: George Madore 1911...
Update:
I heard back from Caspian, the frame was manufactured 16 years ago and sold directly to Mr. Madore, which confirms my suspicions that this was a "house gun" and not a walk in.
Its an officer sized frame, with a Commander slide.
Re: George Madore 1911...
Just saw this thread. I have a George Madore 1911.
For those who have never heard of the "wizard of the 1911", suffice it to say that a gun done by him is easily the equal or better of ANY 1911 currently available.

Re: George Madore 1911...
I also just saw this thread I have a Madore 1911 that my dad had done by him. It shoots amazing I try not to shoot it much because its such a nice gun. Great find!
Re: George Madore 1911...
But what are they worth? If he was to sell that thing, what kind of money could he expect?

A similar "house gun" built on a Caspian frame and slide would probably command a $2500+ price tag and at least a year wait, probably more.
Re: George Madore 1911...
Evidently neither the gunshop nor the owner knew what they had. I never find deals like that. Okay, once I got a really good deal on a pristine High Power.
Well, in any case, even if I had stumbled across that gun, I wouldn't have bought it because I don't like flat mainspring housings.:D
P.S. I hate you too.

That is absolutely the case. Mainspring housings can be replaced, you know. :)
I am hesitant to change this gun, though, I think I might have to put a bar sto Bull barrel on it at some point.

JCW: "I think I might have to put a bar sto Bull barrel on it at some point."
Why, oh, why would you think that? Madore's .45's would/will shoot 10 shots into a Bullseye X-ring at 50 yards. (1.6"). My gun will still do close to that after better than 50K rounds. George made good guns.
