Look at buying a fun gun. I just started to get into revolver. I was looking at something that would be 4" to 5" that would either .38 or .45 cal.
Any suggestions.
Thanks,
Nicholas.

I like .357 Mag revovlers because you can shoot either .38 special or .357 mag rounds. That siad, you find nice used S&W Model 19s, all of the assorted Ruger revolvers, and even Colt revolvers like the Trooper for reasonable prices.
I just today got a Ruger GP100 in .357/.38 w 6" stainless. Haven't shot it but can't go wrong with any Ruger or Smith IMO. Good luck, let us know what you get. Also this is a great multi caliber option if you can find it..... http://ruger.com/products/newModelBl...le/models.html
My personal choice would be a Ruger GP100 in .357 Magnum. Why .357? Just because I could run .38 or .357. In all likelihood, I would probably run bunny-fart loads in .357 cases for teaching new shooters.
Ruger Blackhawk in 357. Takes 38 special to target shoot, 357 to kill things. Built like an anvil, dead simple, and looks like something John Wayne or Clint Eastwood would be carrying. Yippie ky aaa!
210, 220 -- whatever it takes.

It would take a lot for me to get rid of my 4" GP100. Here's a post from another forum that I think is spot on regarding wheel guns in general.
Quote:
I love S&W revolvers, in particular the model 586/686 and model 29/629...
Taurus....have owned probably 10 from the late 80's til resently....NEVER a single issue.
Ruger.....the anvil of revolvers...you can't f*** em' up....the best choice for re-loaders that like to get the max out of their loads.
Accuracy......the following are all within mm's of each other in a good shooters hands
Colt....best triggers
S&W Really good in the heavier frames
Ruger...Big guns that just WORK all the time
Dan Wesson...cool older models with inrerchangable barrels...FUGLY
Taurus....great guns and best priced.
GP100 4.2" stainless .357mag. Or a Redhawk .44mag 4" or 5.5".
How could anyone call this "fugly"? And Dan Tanna carried one which seriously raises the cool factor.
