It was the states decision after all.
It is perfectly legal for me to sell a long gun to another Pa resident as long as I do not have reason to believe they are prohibited.
This can be me simply profiling them and deciding that they are not.
I get to make that decision, not the state.
The state made the rule, I get to decide how to use it.
With universal checks, I am compelled by the threat of force to obey their law.
Big difference.
One is me choosing to do something and the buyer agreeing voluntarily, the other is the gov't forcing us to comply.
As for the state's decisions, as I have repeatedly stated here, elections have consequences. I do not have to like a law, but since I am not a criminal, I go along with it until such time that the people wake up and use their power to elect those that would correct such unjust laws.
As a member of a representative republic, all I can hope for is that my fellow citizens value their rights enough to vote to keep them.
I see you are not of that mindset.

In theory if there were no background checks criminals would be less cumbersome to just enter a legitimate gun store and buy weapons off the shelf. Why buy a stolen gun that is likely marked up several times more than its actual worth since it is likely a hot item and not as readily available as just going to Cabellas and picking up one of the hundreds of guns there?
Criminals should not be on the street buying firearms in the first place.
Background checks are deemed needed only because the government wants to release violent criminals to live among us in society. If they were still in prison where they belong, they wouldn't be trying to obtain firearms.
It's interesting to note that government's release of criminals to live among us raises the crime rate, and makes it even more necessary that law-abiding citizens be armed for self-protection.
Re: Bucks county Democratic wants to close the PA state loophole
There's actually no good reason for background checks on shotguns and long guns unless you plan on knowing where these guns are for future reference.
The only reason they want these new checks is so they can register newly purchased firearms in the same way Pennsylvania gun owners are subject to handgun registration through the ROS SP4-113 form submitted to the Pennsyslvania State Police just after purchase. It directly links the PICS background check to the firearm through this form. It is a gun registration form that is abused by Police in Pennsylvania. Read section "E" that requires the gun make model and serial number. This is gun registration pure and simple and it is illegal. It's being done and there's no denying it.

I repeat it is illegal but they have skirted the issue for the time being by using lawyerly weasel words. Intent of the law no longer has any meaning or priority. It's all about word smithing and parsing the language to their ends. That's the honest way to register guns and run the government by the people and for the people, using weasel words like;"It depends on what the meaning of the words 'is' is."... I must be dreaming all this you say, it's all a conspiracy theory and I'm a kook or some such thing. That may or may not be true, only my hairdresser knows for sure but it's a sure bet that calling me a kook is their way of saying "shut up".

Now add long guns and shotguns to line "E" in SP 4 113 and we provide them the road map with every SP 4 113 that is filled out. It's already too late for handguns, the horse is already out the barn on them and these documents right now provide names and addresses of handgun owners that are more than likely to own other firearms as well.
Now they want your long guns and shotguns on that ROS list. But why? Is that just something a benevolent and trustworthy government wants to know so they can use the information in crossword puzzles while they are surfing porn on the internet at their desks in Harrisburg? When they finally are are able to pass a complete gun ban these seemingly innocent and harmless documents will be wrapped around CS and flash bang grenades as they come through your window when you refuse to turn in your guns.
It will be some years down the road when that finally happens, some of us diehards are still hanging on and fighting it off but it's coming. Check the words and the attitudes of those people in the video. They are fairly young and they want your guns badly and make no bones about it.

PS None of the links I provide contain any malicious spyware etc... Even so you should be using at least a firewall and a real time scanning anti virus and anti spyware software program.

I can guarantee universal background checks will keep criminals from getting guns. All the 4000 plus gun laws have been affective in curbing criminals from getting guns. If we add a few more gun laws, criminals will not get guns.
Criminals will never try to get guns illegally and these laws will never effect the honest gun owner.
Signed
So sarcastic it ain't even funny.
Ps: this is what you're buying into ...for your safety, of course.

No one is stopping someone that wants to conduct a private sale from going to an FFL and having a longarm transferred that way. But if I, as a non-criminal want to buy a long arm without asking the government for permission, I should be able to.
