What is your skill?
Powdered metal (tool and die) is big in the area.
Rough / finish carpentry, residential electricity and plumbing, I can't stand in one spot in one building....drives me nuts! basically any phase of residential & light commercial construction.
Not much large construction going on. Few houses here and there, and some kitchen / steel roof / siding jobs, but that usually ends when the snow flies, not too far away right now. You could probably eke out a living in some outdoor jobs, cutting trees, gas fields. Big around here right now is the truck driving for the Marcellus drill sites. They use 18 wheelers and duallie water trucks taking sand and water to the well sites.
Perhaps you could find a maintenance job in one of the manufacturing facilities. Not exciting but at least you get to move from job to job in the plant.
Go to the nearest PA Job center or go online at Careerlink and see what it out there.
I'm in the same predicament, but I'm moving with or without a job. I am a St. Marys native and have found that people don't really take you seriously unless you live there. Additionally, they look at my resume and see I have an MBA and think I would not accept a lower position. Yes I'll run a press all day long if need be.
