How early can I reapply for my CC permit from PA before my existing one expires? Mine expires in 3 months. I don't want any time to lapse or I'm going to have to open carry during that time.
Thanks for any replies.

As soon as you would like. Although it wouldn't surprise me if a few sheriffs think otherwise. Be aware that your renewed license begins from the date renewed and not the original date.

Assuming Northampton is not one of the enlightened counties that does same day issue, I would go a couple of weeks before the normal turn around time. Here in Lehigh last time I went It was around six weeks before that I went in. After all you never know when they might have printer trouble or something! At that time I anticipated 2-3 weeks for processing and issue. Here they mailed the completed card to you, not sure what they do there.
A sheriff told me the same thing as what poster #2 said, less than 48 hours ago.
I was a few weeks early this time around and both I received new on spot in 20mins.
I don't reapply until mine actually expires. As long as individuals remain legally qualified, they fall under an exception for six months beyond the expiration date on their LTCF. That's plenty of time for the sheriff to issue another, given his/her statutory limit of 45 days max to either issue or deny.
Quote:
§6106 (b)(12):
(12) A person who has a lawfully issued license to carry a firearm pursuant to section 6109 (relating to licenses) and that said license expired within six months prior to the date of arrest and that the individual is otherwise eligible for renewal of the license.
Can you please explain which (if any) of the other "exceptions" are actually "defenses", and why? If I can produce an expired license within the 6-month window, why would I possibly even be charged? Hardly seems like probable cause to me.
