Handgun Ammo for Maximizing Muzzle Flash
Hi All,
What brand of ammo is best for getting the biggest muzzle flash out of 9mm, .40, and .45 ACP?
So far I've found that .40 Magtech Guardian Gold produces a pretty significant flash, but I'm wondering if there's another ammo that will give even more flash.
In case you're wondering, this is for photo/video purposes.
Thanks a lot.

Ya want a real "Flash"???
Stuff the case full of slow-burning rifle powder. Of course, it will not be a very efficient load, but it will be a spectacular night-time "shot". About the best would be 44 MAG and a bunch of 2400 behind a very light bullet to give you a good effect.
30 Carbine in a Ruger Blackhawk pistol, use regular military carbine loads, for an off-the-shelf load with plenty of illumination.
And, you are welcome.

Hey thanks for the response--
I don't have reloading capabilities though so am just looking for something off the shelf. Any idea which brands use slow burning powder?
Re: Handgun Ammo for Maximizing Muzzle Flash
I used to get PMC in .357mag with a 158gr soft point that had a nice flash during the daytime hours. It looked like a cannon going off in the evening shoots.:)
Re: Handgun Ammo for Maximizing Muzzle Flash
all you need is a Thompson Contender pistol chambered in .223/5.56 and get some old surplus ammo. man is that ever sweet. :D
Re: Handgun Ammo for Maximizing Muzzle Flash
A Glock 33 in 357 sig will give you plenty of flash;).
Re: Handgun Ammo for Maximizing Muzzle Flash
AR pistol is always nice for that :)
Re: Handgun Ammo for Maximizing Muzzle Flash
I always liked Win296 in my 44 mag. Nice fireballs!

Get a .500 mag with a 4" barrel and fire it close to dusk... you'll need a few seconds for your eyes to get readjusted to the darkness again.
I've found that the expensive defense loads produce the biggest fireballs... which makes sense because they're loaded for more power than your average range ammo.
No need to explain wanting more flash. I love muzzle flash at the range. It's fun in the same way bump firing an ar or ak is fun.
Re: Handgun Ammo for Maximizing Muzzle Flash
Best thing for a good flash is find the shortest barrel with the biggest round. Last weekend at an indoor range I saw a pretty good fireball from someone using Tula (russian) ammo.
