Can anybody recommend gunsmith to restore wooden stock?
I picked up Winchester Mod.70 Super Grade with dinged up wood (mishandled by a police department) and would like to have it restored.
I did find some craftsman that do a great work, but none of them closer than Boston. I would prefer to deal locally.
I'm hoping that maybe somebody knows a real craftsman that can fix it right the first time.
Please let me know.
Thanks!

For just the stock, you are probably better off with a woodshop or furniture re-finisher.

I was thinking along the same way, however I think that indoor furniture has much lesser requirements than rifle stock.....
Anyway, thanks for a suggestion.

Most of the time the dings can be steamed out then you can refinish it yourself. You'll love it that much more!

Try http://manhartsgunsmithing.com/
He went thru a really rough Savage 99 for me that was a mess. I am still amazed how well it turned out. The stock was super dark and in really bad shape from being in a safe during a flood. He saved it and also got it to lighten back up very close to original.
