10 Yard / 85 yard zero for .22 LR
I use the military 25 / 300 yard Zero for my AR. I wanted to use some equivalent system that would work for .22 LR. After much trial and error I came up with a 10 / 85 yard zero that seems to create a somewhat smooth arc.
I used my most accurate bolt action Rifle for .22 LR and CCI ammo. The scope sits about 2 inches high from the bore.
Here is my data:
10 yard............. 1st Zero
25 yard............. 2 inches high
75 yards............ 3 inches high
90 yards............ 2nd Zero
100 yards.......... 3 inches low
I was somewhat surprised at how fast the drop was after reaching its apex at about 90 yards.
The grouping was about 2 inches at 25 yds and about 6 inches at 100 yds from a rested shooting position. I have gotten much tighter groupings before, but this grouping a better representation of average.
The goal here was to find a zero that would create a smooth arc across a wide range of shooting distances within the 100 yd range that I normally shoot.
Re: 10 Yard / 85 yard zero for .22 LR
Somewhat non technical,I zero at 50 yards and at 10 yards 1 inch low and at 75 yards 1 inch high and at 100 yards 1-2 inch high ! Scope is a 3X9X40MM VARIABLE ! LEUPOLD VARI-LUX II off of my Savage MK II Bolt and Ruger 10-22 ! I picked up both scopes over time used for $125 each ! My Browning Medallion 7MM-08 has the same scope sitiing on it also and shots out to 200 yards.

Marine,
Thanks for your feedback. I wonder if the air is slightly thinner where you shoot. Something seems to be slowing down my bullets. I am at 2,000 ft elevation. The air very damp lately.
I am also wondering how high your line of sight is over the bore. If it is significantly higher that would create a higher apex for your bullet path. If you have any other date, I am particularly interested in the rate of decent for the 22 LR after the bullet reaches it apex.
I am guessing that the 50 yd zero you have is your 2nd zero. The pattern from my data indicates that you should also have a zero at about 8 yds. Test it out and let me know how your rifle shoots at 8 yds.
I did some more testing today using cheaper, bulk Remington ammo.
My results:
10 yd........ 1st zero
25 yd........ 2 inches high
75 yd........ 2nd zero
100 yd...... 4 inches low
