It was the biggest rod they had. Size wise I am not sure. I bought it going off of what I felt would be solid enough and still be able to flex some. Pick one the you can just BARELY bend into a shape. I can supply the info as much as I can, but some things you have to be able to judge on your own. I wish I could help you out more :/

well i am going to build it tomorrow changing the design slightly doing away with the rod and going to use a wooden dowel rod and a turn buckle and hook for the contact points to do away with the energized rod its insulated just the contact points of the wire will be hot, and will be adjustable to cut angles in the foam (ie bottoms of fal and 1911 mags).

Gonna dig this up. If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby they have hotwire foam cutters for $30, given they always have 40% off you can get one for under $20.

What a cool idea! I love how clean a cut it makes in the foam.
