Report: President Trump Signing Bump Stock Ban, Citizens Have 90 Days to Turn Them In
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2...-turn-them-in/
Quote:
President Donald Trump is expected to announce that he will be signing a ban on bump stocks that gives Americans 90 days to hand them over or otherwise dispose of them.
Bump stocks were used during the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas attack. That attack marked the first time that bump stocks were known to have been used in a crime.
The ATF circulated language to ban bump stocks at Trump’s direction in December 2017. The public was allowed to comment and gun control outlet The Trace reported that 85 percent of those who commented opposed a ban.
CNN reports that Trump is now preparing to sign the ban and it will outlaw the firearm accessories without a grandfathering option. CNN quotes a source that indicates “members of the public will be given 90 days to turn in or otherwise discard their bump stocks.”
ATF Acting Director Thomas Brandon told the U.S. Senate he anticipates a legal challenge against the ban and acknowledged that that challenge could slow the ban’s implementation.

.
I don't have any but I'm curious if someone has something previously legal and it becomes illegal and is required to surrender it without compensation, isn't that something that could be challenged?
.

Ask anyone in NY that lost their > 10 round magazines in a tragic boating accident.

If this happens exactly as stated then he just set the stage for an all out semi auto ban in the future, but remember those with power and influence who are supposed to be representing the people are playing 3D chess while the rest of us are eating crayons and playing checkers.

Re: President Trump Signing Bump Stock Ban, Citizens Have 90 Days to Turn Them In
It's ridiculous.
It will never fly. They have to compensate people that actually turn them in...

Re: President Trump Signing Bump Stock Ban, Citizens Have 90 Days to Turn Them In
Which of you cops are coming for mine, because I will not comply?

I think the exclusive enforcer should be an elected position.

No worries, we've been told how law enforcement won't follow an unconstitutional order such as this.

Maybe that "nuke everyone" jack ass from California? This would be good practice for him since he has already said they should be doing this for Semi auto "assault weapons".

That was in the same thread as Trump is super pro 2A, right?

Possibly, or it may have been one of the ones about how the NRA is a national treasure and anyone who isn't a member is a public enemy.

I disposed of mine already under the assumption that I will be reimbursed if the EO is overturned

I refuse to play a cat and mouse game. I'm out and out stating that I have one and I am refusing to comply with the order. I'm ready.

There is no doubt that Hitlery and Burny would both have done us better.

At least they would have done what they campaigned on.

Re: President Trump Signing Bump Stock Ban, Citizens Have 90 Days to Turn Them In
I guess it's another example of "Statists gonna State"
In truth, we're one Democrat supermajority away from losing the 2nd almost entirely. All of us should know this and be thankful that Trump did at least seem to make a couple decent SCOTUS picks.
Here's hoping all new gun control (this directive without legislation included) goes to the SCOTUS and gets knocked down.

Is this ban based upon the "new and improved" definition of fully automatic that ATF laid out recently? If so I don't see how it survives review. As I recall, the new interpretation posits that the bump stock functions without the presence of the trigger finger. I would like to see that demonstrated. As I understand bump stocks, the firing is dependent upon the trigger "bumping" the trigger finger. If the finger is removed does the weapon still fire or does an uncontrolled mag dump occur?

You know what makes a difference? Judges. I don't know who you voted for, maybe Hillary, maybe third party, maybe no one. It doesn't fucking matter because Trump has put two solidly pro 2A people on the SCOTUS and a shit-ton on the lower courts. This is a much longer game than knee jerk bullshit over a piece of plastic that can be cranked out on a 3D printer. Having judges that will rule that semi-auto rifles are covered by the 2A are far more important than a bump-stock. I expect bump-stocks will be right up there with 922R compliance, something almost no one gives a fuck about.
I'm smart enough to see the long term implications of not voting Trump. We'd now have Justice Garland and Justice XXXX, both of whom would be solidly anti-gun. Ginsburg would likely have pulled the plug as well, handing her seat off to a young progressive. How many more will there be? And the lower courts would be a nightmare of progressivism. I didn't love Trump, but I voted for him knowing that the alternatives would be far worse. I was correct and that hasn't changed.
Nope, he's not Ted Cruz making bacon on the barrel of an AR. But he remains, as of now, our best hope to retain our 2A right, regardless of bump-stocks.

Re: President Trump Signing Bump Stock Ban, Citizens Have 90 Days to Turn Them In
If legal challenges are filed, I will be happy to donate.
In the end it's a bad precedent if allowed to stand as big government can just write executive order bans on anything and then you have to give it up without being compensated.
It's a stupid move by Trump.

Fact is a lot of these dumb laws the Republicans were right behind and the NRA as well. In the end with this case, people have to surrender something they bought in good faith with no compensation and in addition we get nothing at all, remember all the delusional people thinking they could trade bump stocks for reciprocity?
If Trump starts acting like a democrat or a Bush or one of these go along to get along Republicans, well I'll assess the situation in late 2019, early 2020, but I will not be enthused.

It really has nothing to do with fingers, triggers, accessories, modifications, one pull one shot, peoples feels or anyones definition of them .In simplistic terms it really just comes down to the Pew,Pew,Pew that comes out of the business end of the barrel, That's all folks!

Re: President Trump Signing Bump Stock Ban, Citizens Have 90 Days to Turn Them In
At this point anyone playing the "fuck em, let them come get it" game might as well convert their rifles to select-fire. If a bump-stock is a machinegun, then a machinegun is a machinegun. Might as well build the real thing if you're going to risk a 10-year prison sentence.
And it's less risky to take a real one to the range as long as you keep it in semi. Most people probably won't notice the third pin and "auto" mark (psst. leave it off). A bump stock is pretty instantly recognizable.

As Spock would say, your logic is infallible Nickle Plated
those folks with the 80% lowers surely have the machining capabilities to fab up a DIAS (drop in auto sear)

Thousands of privately owned 3D printers are already dialed in.
Now what?
Do they not know technology will fill any void created by foolish mandates?
Idiotic move by DJT to piss off the very people who put him in office.

That was state, so they could argue you can dispose of them out of state - so no taking under 5A.
This is federal, there has to be a compensation package or it's a slam dunk court case.
Of course, even without that it's a slam dunk court case since ATF and EO can't create law, just adjust scope. Bump stocks are no way machine guns per federal regulation; first court case and this is gone unless Congress specifically bans bump stocks.

Look at the ssar mod stock, it looks alot more like a stock than the cheap ones. And the difference is in the definition of machinegun, you can argue the bumpstock does not function like a dias, or sear pack. The atf already said Congress must approve with the change in definition of machine gun in order to ban bumpstocks

Like it or not I too see the merit in this post. Sure you can keep it but will never be able to use it and if there is an event at your house like a fire or a break-in your illegal bump-stock could be found by LE. Not any different than it will be if semi-automatic rifles are banned (which I'm sure is on the agenda). The only difference would be that if TSHTF the semi-automaic rifles would be of use. I do see this as a progress that needs to be stopped in its tracks and I won't feel easy about it unless/until a favorable ruling comes down from the high court.
