The risk that concealed carry reciprocity poses to D.C

The Jan. 28 Metro article “Hundreds apply for D.C. concealed carry permits” accurately called out the societal shift toward guns being forced upon the District by the courts.
While concealed carry permitting is becoming easier in the District, officials point to stringent criteria for applicants, including safety training, background checks and restrictions for people with a history of violence or mental illness. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, federal legislation that would require concealed carry permits issued in one state to be honored by all states and that has been passed by the House, is an active threat to the District’s independence in asserting how concealed carry is governed within the city limits. The regular influx of visitors to the District makes the risk posed by concealed carry reciprocity all the more pertinent. Whether by arguing for states’ rights or for common-sense gun legislation, the Senate must step up and defeat this bill.

Now we pose a risk? Keep in mind PA LTCF carriers have no more accidents then those in high regulation states, and carriers in general are more law abiding than even the police.
Implying other states don't do background and mental health checks is nothing more than a red herring meant to instill fear in the uninformed.

It's bullshit of course. Fear mongering. They did not read/ignore the Act.

Well, Amazon.com and the WaPo are owned by an elitist named Jeff Bezos, so of course he doesn't want to see gutter trash, like us, being able to defend ourselves against the forces of the Empire and it's minions.
Re: The risk that concealed carry reciprocity poses to D.C
How arrogant of the writer to assume that no state can do it as well as DC can.

I do not believe that mental health is used much. For my NH permit, it was a straight background, whereas for NJ FID/P2P I have to sign my HIPPA privacy away for the mental health check.
Either way, NJ does not want to be invaded by these dangerous gun carrying crazies who are crazy, but also decided to get a legal document to carry.

Guns aren't being forced upon the District by the courts, the District is being forced to follow The Constitution by the courts because the District won't follow it voluntarily!!!

if these licensed concealed carriers aren't committing "gun violence" in the states where they are licensed, it's pretty irrational to believe they are going to act any differently just because they cross an imaginary line.

Exactly---it goes to prove the bottom line of anti-gun groups is total disarmament. Reason? CCW holders for the most part are registered, background checked and usually have training yet they [still] cry they'll be blood and death in the streets. These are the requirements the want---registration, background checks and training yet they're not satisfied once again. Kind of like crying we need "natural gas/clean gas" then when we have it they say fracking is dangerous or natural gas is dangerous, etc. When we're unarmed and living in mud huts, they 'll finally be satisfied because they'll be off to other locations grabbing power and money.
