If I am looking at the map correctly, I will be heading west on 30, coming north on 219 from Somerset. The parking appears to be on the left from that direction. Is that correct? If so, I would stay on that side of 30 and hike south/west, correct?

Right. From the parking area, you'll hike downhill about 1/4 mile on the blue-blazed connector trail, and then turn right at the bottom onto the yellow-blazed trail. The main trail has concrete mile markers so you can generally tell where you're at.
That is correct , have a great hike !
Years ago , my wife hiked that trail from end to end many times + a lot of weekend jaunts from shelter to shelter . Enjoy !
Thank you, Gents! Leaving in the morning, probably hiking on Sunday.
I've registered my treks on both day and overnight trips. You never know, something may happen on the trail where you can't hike out (zombie attack). Even if someone is with you, you have to make the decision for them to stay with you and wait, or send them for help. The log will let the wardens know when you plan on returning. This way when you're over due, they can tell and come looking for you.
Wow! What a great hike, Scruff! It was perfect for us, and exactly as described. Extremely beautiful. We both enjoyed it immensely.
As promised:
Near where we started, just south of Rt. 30 (mile 46 of the trail).

We started from the parking lot at about 11:30am, reached Beam Rocks around 1:45 (about 5 1/4 miles I think), stayed there for a bit, and got back to the car about 4:40pm. I had a good bit of trouble on the way back with pain in both knees. It has been a while since we hiked, or even walked a good distance, and I keep forgetting that I have to keep my legs in better shape, or my knees begin to hurt. The last 3 miles were at a much slower pace than the first seven. They are still a bit sore, but the hike was worth it. We had a blast.
More pics from the trip, we did some other things beside hiking.

I'm doing that hike for sure!
Do it. I have many more pics of the hike, but you'll want to see it for yourself. The trails winds around and through the rocks between 45 and 46, very neat. Around 43 to 42 the trail goes through a hemlock stand with very little undergrowth, just needles on the ground, and the areas with the ferns stretch as far as you can see in the forest.
