I have a bca in 450 bushmaster. It has half a lug on the bottom so idk if they changed that by now. The only issue I've had is I had to retorque the barrel nut after 30rounds but this is an upper I assembled myself

I run 230g poly coated from Acme Bullet, which I typically buy 3,000 at a time (mail carrier *loves* me those days) - by the count, not by the box. Usually gets me thru 5-6 months of matches. I haven't actually mic-ed them, but my 1911 eats a steady diet without complaint as long as I do my part.
All that said:
I get the sense while browsing teh interwebs that 450 brass is a kinda hens teeth proposition...
Thanks for this thread and the useful replies. I've been debating a 'big bore' AR upper and have been leaning towards the 450 Bushmaster. The primary reason is the availability of the ammunition.
Right now the 450 AR is probly the number 1 deer gun in ohio. My powder supplier sells a half dozen or so week.
Easiest way to get brass is buy 500 loaded factory rounds then save em. Buying components at the start is a waste of money.
Well for $51 to buy a .458 Socom barrel @ BCA to build a novelty gun, I think I'm going to take the gamble and hope it pays. I appreciate everybody's input.
Feel free to keep adding to the conversation about any of these big bores. Interesting stuff
You'll be fine with the 458. Its just as fun as the 50 Beo. I can easily hit man sil's at 200 with iron sights with mine.
Enjoy the 45/70 bullet selection when it comes time to reload.
I did order their complete .45x bolt & BCG. I think it was ~80-85, which was much cheaper than anywhere else.
I'm not pushing one brand over another, but if any one else comes along these are the 3 that I looked at:
1. Tromix - I could get the barrel and a bolt (no bcg) for $299.99 https://tromix.com/
2. Faxon - Was the most expensive option I looked at @ Primary Arms. Barrel (on sale) $209.20 & BCG ~$166ish https://www.primaryarms.com/faxon-16...15a45814p10ngq
3. Bear Creek Arsenal - 18" Socom $52 or .450 Bushmaster barrels for ~$80 https://www.bearcreekarsenal.com/bar...er=345&stock=1
If this weren't going to be just a novelty build for me I probably would have went with either Tromix or Faxon
