Good or bad can come from complimenting the police oficer's response. The Chief may be on the other side of the fence and hold it against the good officer.

so you are saying if we just let cops smoke weed...

This is so true! Good cops get little if any recognition. Call, write or better yet stop in a let the chief know, the officers did a great job.
