Background check for NFA firearms
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. My question is that I want to build an SBR with a silencer. Are the background checks for NFA items really hard and rigorous?
I can purchase a gun at a store and I just received my LTCF approval letter last week but haven't pick up my license yet, busy at work.
PS, sorry if I post this in the wrong section.
Thank you

Pretty sure there's a sticky in the "Firearms/ NFA forum"
However, you need to fill out a form, or two in your case, and mail it to the ATF, and a copy to your sheriff(I think), along with two $200 checks. Then wait 2-12 months for the forms to go through. There are more details but you can read about that in the forum I listed above.
Re: Background check for NFA firearms
Why are you worried about a more rigorous check.

Just little paranoid, it'll sux that I have to wait 6 months+ and 200.00 tax stamp and have it be denied. I've been reading people's posts that they can purchase a firearms but denied their LTCF. That's why I've been waiting to see if I pass my LTCF. I should think it'll be fine right? 😊
Re: Background check for NFA firearms
You should be fine. Denials for NFA items are generally because of clerical errors on the part of the applicant, like wrong manufacturer, SN, caliber, etc. And if that happens, you get a refund.
Re: Background check for NFA firearms
Yes you'll be fine. We all were our first go around.
Re: Background check for NFA firearms
6 months might be optimistic. I bought a supressor the end of May of last year.... still waiting!
Consider anything less than 10-12 months a bonus!

I've done my fair share of keeping the atf lights on. Ammo is dead on. I often wonder if they even check or just stamp it and file your info.

I'm sure they run NICS, and they certainly check details of your filing. I was disapproved because I made a SN error. Typed an 'O' (letter) instead of a '0' (zero) on a SBR e-file. I got the disapproval email one day before 41F and the end of e-file. I was told if I could re-e-file, it would likely be approved in days. Since the e-file system was so unstable and I couldn't do that, I had to paper file and go to the back of the line.

Thanks everyone for your reply, wow...being a gun enthusiasts is damn sure expensive experience. I never thought I own firearms .
My bank accountant was the one who asked me to arm up, she even help me with my LTCF.
