As others said. LTCF does not permit the carry of a loaded long gun.
How about this...is it legal to carry a pistol grip 18" barrel shotgun concealed under a rain coat or Cabela's outback coat? I'm guessing NO also!
yes, it is legal...and you do not even need a license.
that weapon does not fit the PA UFA general definition of a firearm. therefore, the pohibition against carrying a concealed firearm without a license does not apply to it.
the definition is:
Quote:
"Firearm." Any pistol or revolver with a barrel length less
than 15 inches, any shotgun with a barrel length less than 18
inches or any rifle with a barrel length less than 16 inches, or
any pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun with an overall length of
less than 26 inches. The barrel length of a firearm shall be
determined by measuring from the muzzle of the barrel to the
face of the closed action, bolt or cylinder, whichever is
applicable.
the only law that applies to long guns (which is what an 18" pistol grip shotgun is as far as the PA UFA is concerned) is:
so, you cannot carry a loaded 18" pistol grip shotgun in a car...even if you do have an LTCF (since an LTCF only covers "firearms" as defined above).Quote:
§ 6106.1. Carrying loaded weapons other than firearms.
(a) General rule.--Except as provided in Title 34 (relating
to game), no person shall carry a loaded pistol, revolver,
shotgun or rifle, other than a firearm as defined in section
6102 (relating to definitions), in any vehicle. The provisions
of this section shall not apply to persons excepted from the
requirement of a license to carry firearms under section
6106(b)(1), (2), (5) or (6) (relating to firearms not to be
carried without a license) nor shall the provisions of this
section be construed to permit persons to carry firearms in a
vehicle where such conduct is prohibited by section 6106.
(b) Penalty.--A person who violates the provisions of this
section commits a summary offense.
but, the section above only addresses carrying in a vehicle, not on foot. there is no prohibition against open or concealed carry of a long gun anywhere in the PA UFA.
thus, you can, in fact, walk around with an 18" pistol grip shotgun concealed under your coat...with or without an LTCF.
you can also walk around with a 16" AR concealed under your coat...with or without an LTCF.
Also....before you get the Hacksaw out, and make your own Short Barrel Shotgun, that would be Illegal as well....unless you have it registered and pay the $200 tax stamp prior to doing so.
Cool! Reminds me of Tubbs from Miami Vice...packing a pistol grip pump (but his was small!
