Trip to the range with reloads
Went out to the state range on Patla Rd this afternoon to try some new loads. Had 230 grain copper plated 45's, half with 6.0 grains of Unique and half with 4.2 grains of HP38. HP38 was recommended by some forum members as they said it burned cleaner than Unique. Didn't notice much difference between the two but they were starting loads and weren't the most accurate. Next step will be to bump up the loads and again check them. Think I'll do the next ones at 6.3 for Unique and 5.0 for HP38 The gentlemen next to us were shooting some type of 45 surplus in a brown box. Whatever that powder was, Man was that dirty! After 100 rounds, an inch back from the front of the gun was solid black. They weren't keeping the brass so I got it and what a mess.

In most guns, 6.4 of Unique and your 230 FMJ will just about equal factory hardball.

What gun are you shooting these out of?
With 6.0gn of Unique and 230 jacketed bullets I chronoed at about 815-820 fps. That was out of a Glock G21SF with glock barrel.
Re: Trip to the range with reloads
Wasn't my gun and really didn't notice the make. Not a 1911 that's for sure. This spring I will be investing in a chrono. Made up 100 rounds this afternoon. 50 with Unique and 50 with HP38. Waiting on a primer setup for my turret press, so I held some in reserve to make up.
