I'm thinking of using my .223 for this Fall's turkey season. Anybody have any suggestions for ammo? I was thinking target ammo would go right through the bird and not cause as much dammage to the meat as a hunting round.

I think I read somewhere on the PGC site that bullets must be made of lead or must be designed to expand upon impact.
That may just be for deer hunting though.
I'll look when I have time later.
I've used a .22 LR to take two turkeys in the fall and they both dropped dead on the spot.

Fall Season: 1) Manually operated rifles and handguns, including rimfires;
2) Manually operated and autoloading shotguns limited to a 3-shell capacity
in the chamber and magazine combined; 3) Muzzleloading shot-guns, rifles and handguns; and 4) Long, recurve, compound
bows or crossbows with broadheads of cutting edge design.
Single projectile ammunition or shot no larger than No. 4 lead,
bismuth-tin or tungsten-iron, and No. 2 steel. The fall seasons
in WMUs 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 5C & 5D are limited to shotguns
and long, recurve, compound bows or crossbows with
broadheads of cutting edge design.
Turkey regulations do not contain any indication that expanding ammunition must be used. That's generally a big game regulation. As long as the ammunition falls within these guidelines you're good. You should definitely be ok with your .223
I was thinking of buying a .223 for fox, coyote, turkey, and lawn beavers (ground hogs). I guess it would be a good universal gun to have.
I routinely use a Marlin 882 .22mag for fall turkey. Have taken several with Winchester 40gr HP ammo.
Does anyone know if .17 HMR rimfire is legal to hunt with
