I've become interested in an M1A. Anyone have one or have an experience with one?
I know only what I saw on their website, so any info would be helpful.
Any suggestions on any other brand "M14"?

I have owned 5 M1A rifles from Springfield armory. In all my rifles I had no failures of any sort and the accuracy was exceptional. What will you be using it for and I can make a recommendation on models.
My M1A's were:
standard rifle
loaded standard rifle
scout squad rifle
bush rifle
Socom 16
Also LRB and Fulton armory make the M14 type rifle but for the price stick with Springfield
I just want to be able to take it to the range and blast off a few.
I have a 1993 Armscorp M14. Great rifle and accurate. Will fit the bill for blasting. Noisier and more recoil than I remembered, but not objectionable. Gas cylinder under the barrel a-la Garand style means earlier heat shimmer than a similar rifle with a higher sight plane (HK91/CETME, SVT-40, etc).
I'm big into servicing & fixing my own, the M14 is very user-friendly and there's a steady supply of original parts. It appears parts for the M14 will be around for some time in the future.
A few caveats:
308 class battle rifle, noisy and accurate rapid fire is difficult
Gets heat simmer a little sooner than AR-15's
Magazines are more expensive than many 308 rifles
Thanks for the info.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is heat simmer?
Ah, I get it, thanks.
I'm a member of a gun club down in Kennett Square. I'd be taking it to the range there.
+1 on the standard rifle. If you want to put optics on it check out Fulton Armory,A.R.M.S. and Smith enterprises, they all make great mounts for the M14 platform. A raised cheekpiece is recommended with optics on this gun.
I was contemplating getting one of the M1 Carbines from CMP when they make them available, however.........my taste has seemed to be drifting towards the M1A.
I'd like to add the M1 Carbine to my WWII collection of 1903A3, M1 Garand, Enfield No4 Mk1, K98k, K-31, MN 91/30.......
But I've always liked the M1A........think I might have to check out SA again. I'm liking the standard model. Hmmmmmmmm................decisions, decisions.
