What do I need to Purchase a hand gun in PA?
What do I need to Purchase a hand gun in PA? Besides money of course.
I just received my temporary PA drivers license. The permanent one will arrive within 15 days. Do I need anything besides this to make a handgun purchase in the state of PA. I have a clean record, never arrested. Thanks.

Re: What do I need to Purchase a hand gun in PA?
I'm 38, so I have that well covered :)
I was just wondering if I needed any additional documentation.
Re: What do I need to Purchase a hand gun in PA?
As long as your documentation is in order that you are a PA resident and all, and you pass the background check, you should be good to go.
Assuming you are not a prohibited person:
Go to the gunshop; pick out the one you want; give the dealer your DL; fill out the paperwork he gives you; pass the background check; walk out with your item
ETA: I'm not sure if you will have to wait for the "permanent license" or not... you can try posting this in the "General Firearms" forum as well so more people see it, and maybe they could answer that part for you...
ETA2: I just found this thread about the license... check it out... http://forum.pafoa.org/general-2/129...r-license.html
BTW, welcome to increased freedom.. :)

Q. What types of identification do I need to purchase a firearm?
A. Dealers may accept any one of the following documents as identification:
-Valid-current photo drivers license or ID card.
-Valid government-issued photo identification car.
Because Pennsylvania is a point of contact (POC) for the National Instant Check System (NICS), operational November 30, 1998, we agree to do the federal firearms background check (Brady check) which requires a photo identification card. Even though the Pennsylvania law provides for non-photo ID, for members of religious sects whose tenets forbid or discourage
You need Photo ID so a temp DL might not cut it.
