Just one man's suggesting - move this whole site to require https:// just like google is doing now.
No easy task, but I'm all for more https in my life.
Please explain (not a pc person).
Forces the server to use Encryption between it and you. That way things can't be eavesdropped on in the stream between the server and you. Right now, anything that isn't a password is sent in plain text across the inturwebs without you knowing what route it's getting there nor who might be listening along the way. Setting it to HTTPS encrypts all the traffic, not just the password.
Of course, this is all aside if those that you want to keep from reading it don't already have the master key to SSL.
https:// is a secure connection, like when you connect to your bank, or other secure service. It keeps people from casually reading the traffic between you and the site you're using.
It used to be that it was only common for banking sites and the like to use https://, but really, there isn't any reason ALL sites should not be doing it. Google recognized this and recently transitioned to making its site https://.
Thanks streaker/free for the info.
Since nearly every thing done at PAFOA is posted publicly - it makes little sense to run HTTPS.
The only thing that would gain some protection would be private messages.
Except that if you were using a public wifi spot to connect, someone could sniff your activity, tell what you specifically are reading and posting, as well as determine your specific user-ID.
Just sayin'....it would add some security/anonymity for users. This could be especially important, depending on what network one was posting from.
Yes, users worried about it can use a VPN to avoid. But using a VPN isn't really a forum support/suggestion issue.
