Re: I'm the "man with a gun"
I definitely support the side of this equation that maybe does stomp their feet when they get hassled just for having a gun. (Because it's bullshit.) But-

This made me lol.
Glad things went well for you OP. But I have a feeling that knowing the officers involved and being a bit older probably had a definite influence on how your situation went down. (For the better) Which is good. As much as I believe stubborn LEO that trample rights need a hard fight. I think it can do some good when not so stubborn LEO just have a "good" encounter with a man carrying a gun too.
So either way, glad things went well for you.
Re: I'm the "man with a gun"
Good job on the way you handled it. You were doing nothing wrong and the LEO's were just doing their job after getting called. The way you started off set the tone for a positive encounter for both parties.
Rep sent
Re: I'm the "man with a gun"
I'm waiting for someone to come wading in and cursing the OP out for having given in to the demands of "the man."
Re: I'm the "man with a gun"
Although I generally disagree with showing zem mien papers when asked, it's always a decision based on the individual circumstances. The OP knew the LEO's, knew they weren't there to give him shit, and even joked with them. While I don't necessarily agree with his decision to offer up his LTCF, I also can't knock him, on account of his mature handling of the situation.
Rep inbound for handling yourself better than I might have, unless I knew the cops as you said you do.

I usually wait to do that until someone complains about the mess they ended up in, even after "cooperating".
How (or IF) to respond to such an inquiry is a personal choice. Not the way I would have handled it, but so what? It didn't happen to me.

Usually, one tends to catch more flies with honey then vinegar...

If my reading is correct, the cops never even asked for his LTCF, he offered it before they even had a chance to ask.

Sometimes you're not trying to catch flies. Sometimes you're trying to evade a hornet, so there's really no interest in offering something that will please/attract. The tough part is, they often look like flies until they get really close, and you realize too late that it's actually a hornet, so some chose to shy away from any winged pests as a precaution.
