Concealed carry. Able to carry my father's pistol?
Good evening,
I received my Concealed Carry Permit this afternoon. I purchased my first handgun over the summer (An Auto-Ordnance M1911A1) and my father purchased his Walther PPK/S shortly after. We frequently shoot our handguns together.
Would I be permitted to carry his PPK/S even though it was purchased by him, or am I required to carry my own, personally-purchased firearms? The permit doesn't seem to verify this issue for me.
Thanks,
Eric

I'll let the Vets give you the exact legal definitions...
IANAL but from what I have gathered, holding a LTCF enables you to become the recipient of loaned firearm. So you could carry your father's PPK legally.
Correct me if I am wrong 'oh wise ones'!

Well, first off, if you have a "Concealed Carry Permit", then you need to check reciprocity laws, as Pennsylvania only issues a "License to Carry Firearms".
:p
You're double legal, actually.
A loan of a handgun is illegal, except to a LTCF-holder, which you are.
Further, transfers of handguns between parents and children do not require anything official to be done.

Thanks for the quick replies. I appreciate the advice that this forum provides to me (and the information on the PAFOA.org site is fantastic and well-organized).
In the summer, I suspect that it will be a little more difficult to conceal a G.I. 1911A1 than a PPK/S; the ability to choose the best carry pistol will be a great convenience.

You could always just Open Carry. :D There are some excellent IWB holsters that would make it no problem at all, Crossbreed Supertuck for one.

Also curious about this point:
I understand that my LTCF is valid in Philadelphia, but I would like to know what the policy of concealed carry is in the various museums. For example, the Franklin Institute. I would expect that any museum with a metal detector could be a headache for me?
Re: Concealed carry. Able to carry my father's pistol?
Last time I was at the Franklin Institute, I carried with no issues. No metal detectors or wanding there. I believe the Art Museum is the same. I haven't been to many of the other museums in Center City in well over a decade, but they didn't check for firearms then. Of course, that could have just been because I was an adorable 5 year old.*
*The author does not advocate utilizing your adorable 5 year old to conceal your handgun.
Re: Concealed carry. Able to carry my father's pistol?
Transfers between spouses, parents, children, grandparents and grandchildren require no paperwork. So effectively, all trades, borrowing, loans, etc can happen at anytime for any length of time between such family relations.
You can carry his guns, he can carry yours too - concealed with a LTCF or openly.

No you do not need to register because there is no registry in Pennsylvania. You do need to do the transfer an a ffl however.
