If the mill is tight enough, I'd probably prefer to scribe the limits using the jig and just mill out the cavity directly. But I'm not sure how well I can do that with a lathe with a milling attachment.
On my mill, if I scribed the limits of the cavity, I'd rough it out, leaving about roughly .025" extra on the walls, the mic the walls and cut to size. It would probably take longer per person, but you'd get a nice finish and a good fit.
But it sounds like there are several different styles of what needs to be milled.
I want in.
As for timing, if we can push it out until March at least, that should give me some time to be getting around after my knee surgery which is next week. Won't be freezing then hopefully either.
But don't schedule around me.
First we're going to give it a go before we gather a big crowd and see how it goes. Then we'll have a good idea of what we're up against. It would bite if we all got together and for some reason it didn't pan out.
