German surplus ammo question
I have 40rds of German surplus 7.62x51 ammo (AB 22 20 Patrone, 7.62x51, DM 111, Weichkern), but when I try to find more of it I noticed a different boxed ammo listed in 308
Both rounds look the same, mine says 7.62x51 on the box and the ones for sale say 308 on the box
Are these the same rounds or is there a difference (pressure) like our 308 & 7.62x51
Re: German surplus ammo question
Lots of surplus ammo get reboxed and relabeled for marketing. What does the headstamp say?

If the headstamp has the Nato cross on it it is 7.62x51. And if it is really surplus from Germany it would not be loaded to American .308 specs.
You just need to confirm that is is not a former military manufacturer now making new ammo for the American market (like Privi or Wolf)

Now that you know what it is you can research it on other forums. If it is loaded as strong as commercial 308 I would shoot it in anything except my older 7.62 milsurps not rated for commercial 308. If it is like a typical 7.62 round then I would shoot it in anything.

I think I see a nato cross. And like I mentioned before why would the German military load their rounds to the American 308 specs?
Found this link and this explains why the headstamps look funny.........I would worry about them machining the headstamp off. That could effect the headspace. That and the might not be 100% reliable and non reloadable brass I would pass. I can reload them for cheaper.

German military surplus from the 1990s. The headstamp has been machined to remove the headstamp markings. Each round was marked on the side of the casing as 308 Win. The importer was required by the seller to remove the headstamp in order to allow for commercial sales.
This ammo is Brass case, Berdan primed, non-corrosive made in Germany by SM Chemnitzer Sportwaffen und Munitionsfabrik GmbH. The bullet is lead core with 'Cupro-Nickel' jackets that make the projectile magnetic. The ammo is packaged in 20 round boxes inside a case of 1,000 rounds.
***This ammunition is military surplus and most likely has not been stored in ideal conditions or the proper environment throughout the years. Therefore, we cannot guarantee this ammunition to be 100% reliable. Boxes may be damaged.***

Could someone explain how CuNi would be magnetic?
