410 AR Shotgun Upper Review
So I gambled and purchased the upper from Centerfire Systems
https://www.centerfiresystems.com/p-...num-black.aspx
It does break Clay's when you do your part.
The website does say use shells 2.25" max for reliable function. The shells they recommend are not available anywhere and no companies list their true OAL. I was able to single load some Winchester AA and it fired nicely.
The barrel nut was not installed tightly and the hardguard wobbles. Allen set screws hold the hand guard on and 1/3 stripped out so some drilling is in order to remove the setscrew.
Recoil is near non existant, there is some type of spring mechanism around the barrel under the hand guard.
So far, unless you are willing to work on this upper and buy different brands of 410s to find 1 that will work I am going to recommend avoiding the upper.
Re: 410 AR Shotgun Upper Review
A loose handguard? I hate guns that are ammo picky. Thanks for the warning. That sucks that you're not likely going to be able to get much use out of it.
Re: 410 AR Shotgun Upper Review
That sucks.
I saw that come up in an email from a different vendor.
Thought it sounded cool - something different.
Not that I can afford anything now, but it got me thinking.
I saw another review that wasn't favorable- they suggested the ATI version, but I think that may only come as the complete gun - not an upper.
Re: 410 AR Shotgun Upper Review
I want one like this with a 12 inch barrel.
Re: 410 AR Shotgun Upper Review
About ammo.....from their website:
“ Based on our test firing, it is recommended that Federal T4129 Target Gold Medal Plastic 410 Gauge 2.5" 1/2 oz 9 Shot be used for the break-in period.”

The barrel nut goes on and then 3 allen set screws go through the hand guard into a groove on the barrel nut. The set screws are tight against the barrel nut but the barrel nut is not tight against the upper so there is a wobble.
Re: 410 AR Shotgun Upper Review
It's a shame you are having a negative experience with it. I have one of the original Safir .410 uppers, and it's a lot of fun to shoot. Mags feeding were an issue in the beginning, otherwise it runs great. Due to the price of decent .410 ammo, I rarely (don't) take it out anymore. Once it's on a lower, it looks like any round handguard A2. From me to you, you would know it's any different.
Re: 410 AR Shotgun Upper Review
I have a complete .410 from ATI and I love it. Shoots Remington and Federal 2.5" 6 shot game loads without a problem. Slugs on the other hand are a different story. Tried 6 different brands and the best one without feed problems and holds great groups is the Winchester Super X slug. Groups around an inch at 75 yds all day long.

Correct...no 2.25” inch .410s.
There are a number of sources for 2.5 inch shells loaded with #9 shot. There is no reason that those would not work as well as the Federal Gold Medal
When i looked at the website just now, it referenced 2.5” shells.
