Hi All,
Have a big barn I would like to do some shooting in, probably just 22. Any ideas on good, safe but not too expensive bullet traps?
Thanks

A phone book will stop a 22.
A piece of steel plate from a scrap yard or drop from a steel company set at a 45 degree angle works for me. Depending on your targets consider the splat zone. With paper targets the splatter will be at the bottom edge. Knock downs or spinners the splatter will be 360 around. Plywood will easily contain the splatter.
We're Poofers. We don't miss.
It doesn't take that thick of a piece of steel to stop a .22 (at a 45 degree angle). But splatter is a big problem. If you use your stop long enough splatter will eventually cut thru a 2x4. It can happen even with a performance pellet gun stop. I would line your trap with a thin piece of steel plate. Probably 1/16 for the lining is good but google it.
Dirt berms and a small wall of sand bags have been serving as traps for decades.
Thanks all....good ideas.
I made a box out of 5/8 plywood and lined it with phone books for my pellet rifles when I was a kid. I'd bet it would stop a .22.
I don't know if I'd feel comfortable using it with a rimfire, even though I most likely wouldn't miss.
If I had a big clear area behind it I probably would.
Visit your local scrap yard they will have tons of metal to build with. They will charge the current going scrap rate.
