The range wasn't busy at all. One guy was just finishing up when my wife and I pulled up. Another couple came shortly thereafter and went through about 3 mags at the pistol range and left. We stayed about an hour and I put 32 rounds through my .243 Winchester single shot.
The refurbished range is very nice. The covered shooting stations for rifle out to 100 yards kept us from baking in the sun.
Good to hear it's still in such nice shape. I haven't been back since the last time I posted about it on here. If they're waiving the fee for the rest of the year I might have to stop by sometime though. I'm planning on some late season trout fishing up that way, so I just might have to add a range trip to it as well.
Re: Little Pine State Park
Dear Little Pine State Park Range User,
Thank you for utilizing the shooting range at Little Pine State Park. We have had the new range open for over a year now and people like you have been helping keep the range the excellent resource that it is.
This letter is to inform you about the implementation of a fee at the shooting range. Starting on April 1, 2016 a permit will need to be purchased in order to utilize the facility.
In June of 2012, the shooting range at Little Pine State Park was closed for a major rehabilitation project. This included removal of spent lead shot and then reconstruction of the range itself. Improvements included earthen embankments around the range; new backstops; new shooting benches partially covered by a pavilion; improved parking and restroom facilities. The new shooting range permit fee will help offset the cost of maintaining this facility in a sustainable manner.
Permit Fees are listed below:
$30 Single $40 Family
$36 Single Non-Resident $48 Family Non-Resident
Permits are valid from the date of purchase through December 31 of the year issued. For example, if you buy it on April 1, 2016, the permit will expire on December 31, 2016. Permits are available at the Park Office or at the self-registration station under the pavilion at the shooting range.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact me at 570-753-6000. Thank you for your continued support of Little Pine State Park.

I agree. I liked it when it was free. The 2015 fee was $20/year for a family but they waived the fee at some point late in the year (I was there in September).
I'll be looking for someplace closer to home in Tioga County.

I'm close enough that I'd probably pay it, if there weren't all the stupid rules. I go by there fishing at least a couple times a year anyway.

Still around and still shooting. Had a Little Pine permit last year but only got up there once. Do my shooting out at Sportsmen's.
Hope all is well with you.

Re: Little Pine State Park
Tiadaghton Sportsmans Club is $35 for a family and you have much more shooting options there, out to 300 yards.
The State wouldn't care about anything like that though and I guess our tax money and the massive income for DCNR from natural gas activity isn't enough for them to "maintain" a shooting range.
Mowing the grass and pumping out the septic must be really expensive for DCNR to charge that much money for a 100 yard range.

All is well. Thanks.
Maybe I'll see ya out at the Sportsmans this year. I'm gonna renew my membership here shortly.
Re: Little Pine State Park
I feel the fee is understandable if it gave you access to other shooting ranges run by the state.
Or if they had more shooting options as do many shooting clubs (pistol area, long range rifle, .22 rifle area, skeet and trap area, etc).
But I am not aware of any other state ranges.
So, that makes the LPSP range only feasible if you live in that area.
Having a fee may keep out those that would destroy the range.
The problem is, if I recall, the ranger station is a mile or so away from the range so they cannot see everyone that uses it.
So, someone could stop for a half an hour or an hour and never be seen.
Some thoughts.
God bless!!
