Recommendations for a compact .22 LR semi-auto pistol
I've been on the prowl for a used Smith & Wesson 2213 or 2214 ever since a shooting buddy let me try his on for size. Unfortunately I've had zero luck finding one at any local stores or gun shows.
Does anyone know of a make/model with a similar size and config? Something under 7" of total length, uses .22 LR ammo, 7+ mag capacity, budget isn't a huge concern.
Also, If anyone's spied a S&W 2213 or 2214 in their local shops display case please let me know, it may be worth a road-trip.

Phoenix HP22, may not be as light and tiny as say a Berretta M21 - but is stupid cheap and has been 100% reliable on Fed bulk, Win, Remmy T-bolts. Probably the best sub-$150.00 pocket .22 semi around. Supposely great cust svc - but haven't had a need to use. Google it - you will be suprised by the good press.
While Phoenix supposedly has great cust service, some caveat emptors...
Some complain over the 3 lawyer safeties - mag safety, safety, hammer/f-pin safety... I use mine at the bench at the range, so I could care less. There are TONS of how-tos out there on disabling all except for the f-pin safety.
The firing pin safety is in a position where you will put a lot of wear/tear on it when you grasp the slide - be careful where you grab the slide or else the f-pin safety switch will become loose and can engage itself on its own.
They have been known to develop stress cracks in the frame under the slide at the mag-well; the metal is thin there. The manual says to avoid hi-vel .22LRs - lucklily they run great on standard velocity ammo; no need or want for CCI Stingers. Mine runs freakin awesome with T-bolts and cheap Fed bulk.

Agree with the above post. Hp22

Likewise as stated above.
Inexpensive, reliable compact plinker.10 round mag. You can also get a 5"barrel for it if you want it more accurate than the 3" barrel.

Sorry, but .22LR is useless as a carry round.
Have a look at the Bersa .380 CC. Very, very small and with a much better round.

The OP didn't say anything about making it his choice of carry. Just looking for a compact 22. Bersa/Firestorm also makes a great little 22 that's the same size as a regular size 380.

Yes yes, we know. But being able to purchase a box of 550 .22 LR rounds for the price we'd pay for 100 .380's is quite attractive though :) And plus, most people just use them for targets.

Here is another vote for the hp22. The Beretta is a good choice also.
I have a smith 2214. I have not seen to many in the shop that I go to.

EDIT: just found one for sale. $144.99 - pretty good deal!! Although I'd rather get one in person somewhere locally than deal with FFL, anyone know of a shop in SE PA that has them? http://www.petiteguns.com/item/7643_..._10RD_NIK.aspx

I should have elaborated a bit on usage...
I was looking for a .22 for action/plinking and small enough to fit in a pocket of the fishing vest for the really big ones.
