That is not true, it does not have to be legal hunting firearms only.
The range is on Ranch Rd off of rte 231 in East Finley Twp. Range rules can be found on the PGC's website and are also posted on each shooting bench.

Do they allow AR-15s or is that a no-no?
I think I read somewhere that gamelands requires everyone there to have a hunting license, even to use the rifle ranges.

Went to the claysville one about a year ago. Have to have hunting license or 'range license'.

AR's are fine, Cannot be loaded with more than 3 rounds. (All the regulations are posted on each bench) You need a hunting license or a range permit.

RWJ, is there any effort under way to re-open a range on the Burgettstown gamelands? Why did the one that was there close?

No plans to reopen. Best info would be by calling 724-238-9523 and asking for LMO Dunkerly, He is the Land Management Officer for Washington County

Okay, thanks for the good info.
Wow, that's mighty loose rules to allow 3 rounds loaded into a rifle (especially an AR). So even a Henry 45-70govt with it's tube magazine fully loaded (4 rounds) would be too much.
