New to shooting, looking for a good range.
Hey all I live in Pittsburgh and new to the shooting game. Any suggestions on a good range? I've had enough of the Wexford gamelands, too many knuckleheads and people calling clear ever five minutes.
To be honest I am looking for a place I can shoot in peace and sight in my rifles.
Thanks
Don

What part of Pittsburgh are you in? There are a few clubs around that usually don't draw big crowds. Just depends what you need or want. CDSC comes to mind as a good place to sight-in in peace: http://www.cdsc.us/

You might want to check out the Dormont/Mt. Lebo Sportsmen's club. In spite of the name the ranges are located near McMurray on Linden Ave. The ranges are nice with a pistol, rifle, bench rest and plinking. Costs $75.00 per year and worth every penny.

+1 one on this.
After checking out several clubs in my region, I opted to drive a little further for this club. I've been a member for several months now and will be renewing for next year.

So far this is the best one I have seen on the net. Thanks!

PMSC
I dont know what kind of shooting you do, but look into the rules and whats allowed before you decide where to put on the short list.

I like to plink and work with my AK and HK.

To be fair, I've never been to Dormont/Mt. Lebo Sportsmen's club, but I just read over their rules...
"No holster play" (No drawing from a holster? That's retarded)
After then reading the text about the rifle range and the "plinking" range, methinks they would frown upon anyone with anything more than a bolt action rifle.
If by "work with my AK" you mean have a shooting bay all to yourself where you can safely practice all sorts of shooting including "on the move" and "up close" - then I suggest PMSC as well.
I don't know why they aren't noted on the club website, but aside from the pistol and rifle ranges shown, there are a handful of additional shooting bays available as well. Unless there is some sort of organized event taking place, I doubt you'd ever be unable to get a bay to yourself.
Come check out the next pafoa group shoot at PMSC on the second Sunday of December. If you want more info about that, just ask!
