Best shooting bag filler?
As the title asks, what do you fill your shooting bags with. I would like a lighter bag with something that is not bothered by water and is low cost.
I am leaning toward airsoft pellets but they can be expensive for enough to fill the bags.
What have you used and how has it held up?
Re: Best shooting bag filler?
The lightweight plastic pellets used in various stuffed animal toys (beanie babies). Can usually get them at craft stores like Michael's, etc.
Re: Best shooting bag filler?
Paper targets and magazine reloaders. First Aid/trauma kit. Stapler. Tape. A Sharpie. Maybe I'm thinking of some other kind of shooting/range bag? I dunno why you'd need packing material in a range bag.

Shooting rest bags.
Rifle rests.
Re: Best shooting bag filler?
why not fill it with packaging peanuts? the damn things are still everywhere and last forever.
personally i use my range bag as a rest and before that i used my range box.
if you need more substance, throw some gravel in there too. if you need more firmness, gravel and layers of egg carton foam.
if you need memory, try tumbling media or just submit and use rice.
empty brass?
ps, i've started just tossing empty shells in the driveway, it's like marking my territory, without the urine.

Don't know how many Air Soft pellets you would need but here are 10k of them for $13.00 with free shipping if you have Prime.

Our range uses 22lr brass. Somehow they get it free. :-)

Filler for bags at the shooting bench…

For the bags themselves, go to the Goodwill Store and purchase some blue jeans.
Cut the legs off, sew one end shut, add filler, and sew the other end shut.
Re: Best shooting bag filler?
Why not fill with any form of Styrofoam? Because I want a rest that will maintain it's form, provide a solid surface, and be stable before and after I pull the trigger. The ideal shooting rest doesn't move under the recoil of the rifle. It should provide a surface that allows the rifle to remain on target when you look away or go "hands off". A Styrofoam packed rest is about as useful as a bed pillow.
Nothing beats a bag filled with sand or lead shot. If your worried about moisture place it is a gallon Ziploc bag. I personally prefer my Caldwell Lead Sled Plus with a pair of 25lb plates.
