How easy is the slide on the M&P 380 shield?
Very easy ! recall on the ones with safteys ! Shot a mag thru my sons and recoil was just a tad more than 22 lr ! accuracy was decent at 7 yards groupings were 4-5 inches,my glock 43 9mm at same distance is 2-3 inches great if your looking for an easier slide,I am not a fan of backstrap safteys,I would have your wife test fire this fireame, prices vary $ 269 to $ 329 !
Remember, if the pistol has a hammer that can be cocked, then the slide moves back very easily if cocked forst and then the slide is pulled back and released. Dave_n
Is there such a thing as a ‘girl caliber’?
Shouldn’t any male or female wishing to carry possess the strength to rack said semi auto pistol?
From what I remember both of the Glock tiny guns (g42 and 43) have fairly easy to rack slides.
Go with a 9 though, you get a better round that is cheaper to practice with, and nothing is better for a self defense gun than a shitload of practice.
You should take her to a well stocked gunshop and have her try some out. I have some pistols that I think are very easy to pull back. But my girlfriend struggles with some. You should get her input on what she likes too. Some grip styles might fit her better.
Just as important as the slide you need to find out how recoil tolerant she is. A lot of girls (and some guys) get intimidated by the kick and the "kerchunk" of the slide moving. My GF can shoot a revolver without flinching but when she goes to an autoloader (with the same kick) she gets nervous and has to be more careful about flinching.
Get her to check out one of these... M&P EZ
The mrs likes her Walther CCP. 9mm
Let your wife pick her own gun. You are not the one going to be shooting it she is. Take her some place where she can actually shoot a lot of different guns and let her pick one. If you do not do it this way she will not like it and will not shoot it. I have 2 friends that ended up buying 5 different guns until their wives ended up pick the gun they wanted. My wife can shoot all my handguns. Her preference is her Lady Smith and Wesson in .357 mag. Yes it is a revolver. She likes the rose wood grips and thinks the stainless steel looks intimidating.
