In my opinion, this is a half truth. Yes, an AK will fail if you slather debris into the receiver, but failing that... it will run. Dry, dirty, neglected, etc. Also, a few seconds with a water hose to the interior of the receiver is likely to return it to full working order. The AK rifle's reputation for reliability is not undeserved.
Sure but it's greatly exaggerated no different then the "deadly unreliability" of the AR.
Every rifle is different not all will run dry, not all will run wet, not all will run dirty and you cannot pull them out of mud a year after they were put buried run a shoe lace down the bore, chamber a round and get back to rock and roll like the internet as well as the History channel like to think.
Carbon fouling, copper fouling, barrel leading, and rust still apply to the AK and over time they will shut it down.
