I went Saturday morning, and I saw 3 doe but was not in the mood to shoot one. Saw some bear tracks, and my buddy talked to a local camp guy that said he saw a sow and two cubs the day before. Tons of squirrels, chipmunks, bluejays, and wood peckers. Very noisy and no wind. 28 degrees at 6:15.
I could hear trucks on the road below me, and I was pretty surprised that there were almost no hunters. (Road is a dead end that goes 4 miles into prime State forest.) My buddy was about 1 1/2 miles further down the road, and he said there was almost no one traveling. I did not hear any bear drives. I would say this is some prime state forest land that butts up to some big farms, and no one was hunting. No need for Sunday hunts when you can't get people out for early muzzy deer/bear on a beautiful Saturday fall day.
Heading out Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
I had hoped to get out for this season, but things just didn't work out. Maybe next year.
Me and the rest of my hunting party put on quite a few miles this week. No bears to be found. Bear sign was waaaaaay lower than I expected it to be as well. Apples dropped early and were all eaten up. No corn nearby this year. Obviously there was no snow. I guess I will have to take the week of Thanksgiving off from work. Shucks......
I finally got out Friday morning and saw 2 bears around 9 AM, one of which stopped broadside to me at 30 yards but I didn’t shoot. Both were first year juvenile cubs and were just too darn small for me to take. I simply couldn’t do it and in fact felt kinda bad for them.
I pulled trail cam cards that afternoon and saw the mom and those 2 cubs had come through a few times so my assumption is someone got the mom and the cubs are now on their own.
Hunted rest of day and Saturday and didn’t t see anything. We had 3 of us so we even did a few small pushes through some thick stuff but came up empty.
I read in the newspaper that 519 bears were taken in the first 3 days.
I missed the early season due to being in Wyoming for mule deer and antelope. There’s always next year I guess.
1250 as of now.

A family friend got one on my property. I had tons of bear activity this year but the hunting season week, weather was calm and activity for everything including deer and other animals was very quiet. I gave him the best intel off the trail cams, he staked it out and during the afternoon the bear stepped right out and boom he got him.
