I nave a buddy who is part of the legislative effort to.get this passed. It just made it out of committee and should be going to the floor for a vote where it is expected to pass. I believe that, this year, we will get 6 Sundays approved, I think 2 during antlered deer season.
No it has not passed. Sandcut is correct, the bill just passed out of the house fish and game committee. Next step is that it goes to the full house for vote, then back to the senate for confirmation, and then on to Gov's desk for his signature. If the Gov. signs it, it does go into effect immediately, but many feel that will not happen in time for this year's hunting season.
However, the current bill stipulates only 3 Sundays(not 6). 1 in rifle deer season, 1 in archery deer season, and 1 to be determined by the Game Commission. They're also trying to add language that you need written permission from the private land owner on those 3 Sundays. This is another part of the bill that increases penalties for trespassing and allows the game wardens to enforce trespassing.
The Sunday bans are a hold over from the blue laws. The blue laws were enacted so people would go to church instead of hunting or drinking or any other stuff that people like to do on the weekend.
Had the same article in my morning paper. One for rifle deer, one for archery, one at their discretion. Still nothing as to which Sunday for the rifle deer season. Maybe no decision on that part yet. But it does look like it may not start this season, however I thought that was the intention originally.
If Harrisburg has their way it would be the 5th Sunday of the month !
If they just let you hunt the Sundays during rifle season it would be a good start. Now if they would just lift the semi auto ban.
Sunday hunting days for 2020 announced.
Pennsylvania hunters will experience a second consecutive Saturday opener to deer season and will have the option to hunt on three Sundays in November.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission met virtually Tuesday because of the coronavirus pandemic and approved the hunting/trapping seasons and bag limits for the 2020-21 seasons.
Among the most notable developments were that the regular white-tailed deer firearms season will begin Nov. 28, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This will be the second consecutive year that the season will start on a Saturday.
The 2019 regular deer opener also took place on a Saturday, ending more than half a century of tradition during which hunting season started on the Monday after Thanksgiving. The PGC announced earlier this year that the 2019 Saturday opener appeared to have the desired effect of luring more hunters overall and more younger hunters.
For the first time in 2020, hunters also will be able to hunt deer on a Sunday, as the PGC voted to allow hunting on Nov. 29, the day after the opener.
The PGC also will allow hunting on two other Sundays: Nov. 15 for archery deer hunting and Nov. 22 for bear hunting during the bear firearms season.
