Just got an email from Aim Surplus. They have Russian steel cased, Boxer primed .223 in stock, $215 for 1K.
Are steel cases worth reloading? If so, are special dies needed?

as far as i know, you cannot reload steel cases. i have asked about this before at differant ranges i use and have been told by handfuls of reloaders that it can;t be done. but they never say why. so if someone has the real answer to this, i would really love to hear it
i beleive i read some where that stell is not a plieable as a bress case and are more prone to crack aand i thought all steel case was boxer primed that is a big problem to
I wonder why they marketed it as Boxer primed when the rest of Ruskie stuff is Berdan?
Steel cases are reloadable. The Boxer priming means you'll be able to use your standard U.S. reloading dies to perform the work. Berdan primed cases whether brass or steel can be reloaded, but you cannot use the standard sizing & decapping die found in U. S. sets because the Berdan primer doesn't have a centered flash-hole and IIRC the anvil is built into the cartridge case not into the primer. Look inside a Berdan primed case and you'll see two holes off-centered. Also you must get the right metric size primer, they don't use something simple like large or small, rifle or pistol.
Don't forget besides holding the components in one "package", the cartridge case is supposed to expand and form a gas seal in the chamber, so the steel case is softer than the steel in either your dies or rifle chamber.
For bottle-neck cartridges make sure you do an adequate lube job on the cases outside and inside the neck.
I've reloaded quite a bit of Boxer primed WOLF .223
Not an issue
i've reloaded a handful of wolf 45acp steel cases at least a dozen times so far, and they are still going strong.
myth: steel cases not reloadable.
results: busted
are there differant steps involved with reloading steel? i wonder why everyone says you can not reload them?
